~ Orientation & Approach ~ |
|
I am
trained in many approaches to be professionally present to hear
you in the way you want to be heard and see you in the way you
want to be seen. We begin by creating a safe place for you to be
more acknowledged, understood, and accepted as someone capable of
change at your own pace.
My
approach blends the practical with psychodynamic,
cognitive-behavioral, and existential modes of Western
psychotherapy with Eastern spirituality and feminist
consciousness. I modify my approach to help each client attain
his or her unique individual and interpersonal goals.
I value
my clients as caring and genuine human beings.
I
generally see clients either weekly for a brief period or for
long-term therapy, which could last three years or more. For
those who want the freedom to go beyond the 50-minute hour, I can
schedule extended sessions or 2-hour "intensives"--useful for
individuals, couples and families in crisis and for Hakomi
Mind/Body-centered Psychotherapy. |

~ Personal Comments ~ |

My life
experience has been long and varied. I was raised by a single
mother and married early. I lived with my physician husband and
three children in Bethel, on the Kuskokwim River, some 400 miles
southwest from Anchorage. My experience living on the tundra with
Eskimos and Athabascan Indians provided me an experience that has
given me an excellent perspective for cross-cultural counseling.
I also under-stand losing a parent to multiple and long-term
illnesses and living with other family members with chronic mental
illness.
I love
my work and the opportunity it gives me to interact with so many
fine people.
I
believe my strength is my ability to work compassionately with a
variety of clients, helping them to find balance in their own
lives. Striving in my personal, as well as professional life, I
work with people--to continue to hope, find courage, seek
inspiration in others, and to realize their own self-confidence
and ethical integrity--so needed to cope in today’s world.
