Orientation &
Approach
|
I have two strong beliefs,
which are supported by much research on psychotherapy and
counseling. One is that the most successful treatment involves a
good therapeutic alliance between client(s) and therapist. The
other is that people
have within themselves the resources for positive change.
Therefore, I see myself and my clients forming a team so that we,
together, can help them grow, resolve problems and lead more
productive, creative and joyful lives.
My orientation is
integrative. Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, I draw upon
my wide experience to co-create with my clients a strategy to meet
their unique needs. For some, it might be a short-term treatment
to resolve excessive grief, a phobia, the debilitating effects of a
traumatic incident or to the creation of a more harmonious couple or
family. For other clients, it might be helping them to free
themselves of an unsatisfying relationship, job or addictive life
style. For still other clients, it might be longer term treatment
to raise self-esteem, learning to tolerate and work through negative
emotions such as grief, shame, anxiety and destructive anger; and to
resolve the painful and debilitating effects of childhood
psychological, physical or sexual abuse.
My training and experience
is in the areas of Gestalt therapy, EMDR, humanistic-existential
therapy, object relations therapy, systems theory and psychodynamic
therapies, particularly self psychology and intersubjectivity.
