Focus of Practice & Interests

Helping women find ways to balance home and work, school and career transitions, pregnancy, child and elder care issues, inner direction and meaning and outer commitments. Assisting you in finding the deeper meaning and unconscious direction of life's physical, emotional and spiritual challenges.
Providing creative materials and methods you can use to develop and maintain better communication with your instinctual and spiritual self, e.g., through work with dreams, sandplay, body symptoms, encounters with nature and everyday experiences. Helping you find more depth in relationships with others through deeper relationship with yourself, within the context of ancestral family patterns, insight into personality and cultural differences, and developmental issues.
Seeking understanding and acceptance for differences in gender identity and sexual orientation, for oneself, family members, co-workers and others. Finding and reaffirming sources of renewal and inspiration as well as support for bearing suffering and coping with trauma.

Background & Experience

Private practice since 1986; Evaluating Therapist for SCAR./Jasper Mountain SAFE Center (a short term residential facility for severely disturbed children), 1999-2002; Child and Family Therapist in school settings for the Child Center, Eugene, 2000-2001. Served as a Disaster Mental Health technician volunteer for the American Red Cross, 1998-2000, in Puerto Rico and the US. I have lectured on Jungian sandplay in Japan and the US, as well as teaching courses on topics in Analytical Psychology. I have published research on including grandparents in family therapy, with additional research in the use of genograms and family of origin issues, and have helped edit a forthcoming book on transgender issues.

Patient & Client Populations Served

Elder (66 yrs and up) Pre-teen (8 to 12 yrs)
Adult (18 to 65 yrs) Children (4 to 7 yrs)

I have a familiarity with Spanish, German and Italian, but am not fluent. I also have experience working with people from South America, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, and the Middle East. I am comfortable with various religious orientations and have experience with Jewish, Christian, Native American traditions.

Orientation & Approach

I value the creative and healing potential of denied parts of ourselves which reach beyond words, often appearing as painful obstacles. While some resolve conscious issues in a few sessions, many chose to work in depth with dreams, body symptoms, sandplay, and other creative materials to develop a stronger relationship to their inner life and improve the authenticity of outer relationships and direction. Exploring the impact of old family patterns in current situations, with added perspectives of personality and cultural differences and archetypal contexts aids understanding an finding meaningful directions.

Personal Comments

I have a long standing interest in art, bodywork, nature and how these can give us new insights, support and meaning in dealing with life challenges. I became interested in Jungian analysis and sandplay through my own experience with severe illness and recovery, and found it to be profoundly meaningful, interest in family patterns and the impact of early experiences, led to training in intergenerational and child work, informing my work with adults. While I value experiences and training in various forms of body work (e.g. Alexander technique, Trager, Polarity, etc.), and nursing training which aid in understanding body symptoms and dream images, I do not do hands on body work in my practice. Work with victims of natural disasters (for the American Red Cross), for crisis hotline, and with abuse survivors helps inform my work with trauma. Experiences living in South America, Europe, with Native American practices, lecturing in Japan and travels in Africa, add to my enjoyment in working with people of different cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
