Orientation &
Approach
| There are a number of things that influence
mental health, including genetics, life experiences, health habits
such as diet and exercise, relationships, and stresses (such as
problems with work or finances). My approach to treatment is
strongly based on the importance of early relationships and
experiences for health. I work to heal early relational trauma to
enable clients to develop satisfying connections with others in the
present. I use a variety of methods, including experiential,
cognitive, behavioral, and energetic, to change beliefs and habits
around relating to others. I also help clients to understand and
manage problems relating to factors they can’t control, such as
attention problems, developmental disorders, or learning
disabilities.

Personal
Comments
| I believe that Americans live in a
consumer-oriented, mechanistic society that fails, in many ways, to
support individuals and families in living a satisfying, connected
life. High mobility, divorce, undervaluing of child caregivers, and
loss of extended family result in many children growing up feeling
alone and detached. An over focus on productivity and image leaves
many people feeling inadequate and stressed. A sedentary lifestyle
and a diet rich in calories but low in nutrients means that few
people function optimally, either physically, mentally, or
emotionally. Crime, war, natural disasters, and increasing media
violence mean that many people are frightened, aggressive, or both.
Healthy connections with others work to buffer people from the
ill-effects of these stresses. Connections also enable people to
make changes in themselves and in society.
Connections Psychological Services was
created with the goal of helping individuals and families to heal
the problems that get in the way of healthy personality and healthy
relationships. My hope is that by supporting my clients in their
personal growth, they will be empowered to heal their families,
communities, and world.
