Orientation & Approach

My therapeutic approach is both eclectic and pragmatic.  I describe myself as a Cognitive-Humanist.  I use cognitive theory and technique within a humanistic context.  My goal is to be responsive to the needs the client brings into treatment, and to work toward empowerment, positive solutions, an increased behavioral repertoire, and a deeper emotional experience.

Personal Comments

My background is in education, community mental health, child and family therapy, and drug and alcohol treatment.  I began my career 30 years ago as an elementary school teacher, but quickly found I was interested in working with families.  For the last 10 years, I have been working in private practice as a psychologist and family therapist.  I am licensed in both fields.  I enjoy working with older children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families.

I enjoy learning, both from books and from my interactions with clients, friends and family.  I have four children, ranging in age from 6 to 24.  Life is challenging and rewarding, frequently at the same time.
